Late vocation

I've been fortunate enough to make my career very diverse and this makes me happy. It's a real luxury and gives me great pleasure to be able to make a living doing what I love, making music.

Lisa Barry, 37, Violinist

Lisa was born in America to an Australian father and her family originally descended from Ireland. She got a taste for the big wide world early on – although she only discovered her love for music relatively late. And she had to show great discipline and staying power to turn her calling into a career. She received her first violin lesson at the tender age of nine and then attended conservatory at 25, having previously learned about the high-end hotel business and studied cultural education. This was certainly not the traditional path to becoming a musician, but one which paid off. The keen marathon runner today works as a freelance musician with commitments in chamber and symphony orchestras, teaches in her own music school and coaches the strings in an university orchestra.
