Responsibility through provision

„In the service industry, the work of people for people is
particularly important. A hotel can have perfect fixtures
and fittings, but without a smile from our staff no guest
will ever be 100% happy.”

Dr. Michael Theim, 54, HR Manager ACCOR Hotellerie Deutschland GmbH
Dr. Michael Theim is the central contact for around 9,000 employees in the Accor hotel group in Germany. Whether it’s a manager or a trainee, he is always willing to listen to his staff’s issues. Together with the specialist for the occupational pension provision business segment at MLP, the doctor of law introduced a dedicated company pension model for the Accor group in 2007. Many of the employees now save for their old age in the form of deferred compensation via a provident fund or a direct insurance. Accor also rewards the commitment of its employees with a so-called matching plan, whereby the company additionally contributes the same amount that employees themselves pay in. A survey throughout the group indicated that many employees do not pay enough attention to their pension situation, especially young staff. “We are grateful for MLP’s support, which is helping us establish the importance of this topic in the minds of our staff.” Another result from this internal employee survey makes Dr. Michael Theim particularly proud, as 86% of all Accor employees rate their general job satisfaction as positive.
