6.9 Contract deposits (liabilities)

The contract deposits on the liabilities side increased by EUR 789.7 million in the year under review from EUR 5,008.2 million to EUR 5,797.9 million. The contract deposits item on the liabilities side essentially encompasses balances deriving from non-traditional life insurance contracts that are to be carried as liabilities. The rise was due principally to growth in new business in the area of life reinsurance.
